Contratto di Fiume Noncello: avviato il percorso per la costituzione dell’Ecomuseo del Noncello

The latest meeting of the Noncello River Contract was held in the Porcia Town Council chamber, with the main focus on the establishment of the Ecomuseo del Noncello, one of the most significant initiatives envisaged under the Contract.

The Ecomuseum is a strategic project due to its cross-cutting nature, which involves all the signatory organisations, and is also one of the key projects of Pordenone, Italian Capital of Culture, whose application is closely linked to the culture of water thanks to the inclusion – for the first time in Italy – of a contribution from the River Contract thematic community.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the municipalities involved, the signatories, the University of Udine and the technical representatives of Pordenone Capital of Culture 2027.

“The Ecomuseo del Noncello is a project of great value because it brings together the environment, culture, local identity and the ability to build networks between institutions and communities. Through this initiative, we aim to make the Noncello increasingly understandable, recognisable and experienced as a shared heritage, whilst at the same time strengthening environmental awareness and the local area’s connection with its river,” commented Mattia Tirelli, Councillor for the Environment.

During the meeting, the initial outline of the project was set out, both in terms of content and with regard to the locations identified along the course of the Noncello river within the three municipalities, where the Ecomuseum will take shape as a decentralised and itinerant museum. For the Municipality of Pordenone, the area of the ancient city walls and the Museo di Storia Naturale Silvia Zenari were identified.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to examine in greater detail the timetable for the establishment of an independent legal entity, which is intended to form the core of the Ecomuseum and to strengthen its operational capacity, including in terms of raising funds and securing resources.
