Throughout July, the Pordenone Civic Museums are offering a programme of events that invites residents and visitors alike to experience the city’s cultural heritage in ever-changing ways: themed guided tours, concerts, family workshops, exhibitions, archaeology and nature – a programme designed to satisfy a wide range of curiosities, interests and passions.

All the activities are designed to make museums lively, welcoming and engaging places. From families with children to art enthusiasts, history buffs, science and archaeology lovers, right through to those who simply want to enjoy a different kind of evening surrounded by art and live music.

Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Culture: “Pordenone’s cultural programme never takes a break; on the contrary, during the summer it offers both those staying in the city and visitors numerous opportunities to fully experience the city centre and its neighbourhoods, thanks to a calendar of events, music and a wide range of activities at the Civic Museums. This marks a shift in direction and the steady growth of the city’s museum offering, which is becoming increasingly dynamic and capable of engaging diverse audiences, helping to make Pordenone a vibrant and attractive city all year round.”

Music at the Museum for ‘Thursdays under the stars’ (2, 16 and 23 July)

The programme kicks off with three special evenings at the Palazzo Ricchieri Civic Art Museum, scheduled for Thursday 2, 16 and 23 July. As part of the ‘Thursdays under the stars’ series, the museum will open exceptionally at 6 pm with a different concert on each occasion, followed by an evening guided tour of the permanent collection. This is an opportunity to admire the masterpieces by Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis, known as Il Pordenone, Michelangelo Grigoletti and the frescoes of this historic palace in an unusual and evocative atmosphere. The evening will conclude with an aperitif at Caffè Municipio, courtesy of the voucher provided with your admission ticket.

Observing the sun

On Sunday 5 July at 4.00 pm in the inner courtyard of the Natural History Museum, spend an afternoon with the Pordenone Astronomy Association and their telescopes, observing the Sun. Free entry, no booking required.

Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli – Torre District

On Sunday 5 July, the Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli will take visitors on a journey through the history of Torre with a themed tour entitled ‘Landscapes of Torre: from the Roman villa to the castle’, exploring the profound changes the area has undergone over the centuries, from Roman times to the Renaissance.

One of the month’s most eagerly awaited events is the return of “Torre di Stelle”. On Thursday 16 July, from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm, the Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli is organising special guided tours of its collections, with four tour sessions – one of which will be in English – taking visitors on a journey from prehistory to the Renaissance through artefacts, reconstructions and the history of the castle. The tour will conclude on the museum’s terrace with an aperitif and a panoramic view of the city.

Opening of the exhibition “Mario Moretti. Creativity Disciplined by Art. Drawings, Paintings and Sculptures”

On Tuesday 7 July at 7.00 pm, the exhibition “Art’s Disciplined Inspiration: Paintings, Sculptures, Drawings”, dedicated to Mario Moretti (Reggio Emilia, 1917 – Pordenone, 2008), will open. A painter, sculptor and teacher, trained at the Academy of Venice under the guidance of Bruno Saetti, he took part on several occasions in the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. His works are held in major museums and public and private collections.

Workshops for families

There is also a strong focus on families. On Saturday 11 July, the “Silvia Zenari” Natural History Museum is hosting its traditional “Saturday at the Museum” event, this time dedicated to the surprising strategies of shells. Following a tour of the exhibition “Shells: Jewels from the Sea and Their Strategies”, children and adults will create their own “ideal shells” in the workshop, experimenting with materials and letting their creativity run wild.

On Sunday 12 July, the Palazzo Ricchieri Civic Art Museum will host the workshop ‘Shapes and Colours of Fruit and Flowers’, an activity designed for families that combines the study of still lifes from the permanent collection with artistic experimentation, enabling adults and children to create their own work of art together.

Guided tours

On Sunday 19 July, the Natural History Museum will be offering a guided tour of the exhibition ‘Shells: Jewels from the Sea and Their Strategies’, providing an in-depth look at the fascinating world of these extraordinary marine organisms, exploring their shapes, colours and surprising evolutionary adaptations.

The programme will conclude on Sunday 26 July at the Palazzo Ricchieri Civic Art Museum with a guided tour of the exhibition “Art’s Disciplined Inspiration: Paintings, Sculptures, Drawings”, which traces over sixty years of the master Mario Moretti’s work through paintings, sculptures, polystyrene pieces and exquisite goldsmith’s work.
