Funding sought for the Archaeological Museum

The mid-August break has not brought the work of Pordenone City Council to a halt, particularly that of the Culture Department, which has authorised Mayor Alessandro Basso to submit an application for a grant towards the maintenance of museum displays.

“There is a funding scheme launched by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region,” announced Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Culture, “aimed at providing grants for projects relating to extraordinary maintenance, restoration and conservation, as well as for the refurbishment of museum displays and the purchase of museum equipment. “As the municipal administration, we have decided to apply for this funding, requesting the necessary funds to carry out various improvements to the Early Prehistory section of the Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli. To date, we have already secured over one million euros for similar projects, and we now wish to take a further step forward in enhancing Pordenone’s museums.”

Paris explains in detail: “There is a need to adapt, renovate and overhaul a large part of the facilities in order to comply with the standards agreed upon by the leading national and international museum institutions regarding the proper conservation of works of art. Added to this is the need to adapt the exhibition layouts – which date back more than twenty years – both in terms of the display fixtures and the multimedia and information systems, so as to bring them into line with the public’s new requirements”.

The proposed project is “to create a new exhibition layout,” continues the councillor, “which takes into account criteria of physical and cognitive accessibility across all spaces and which includes new, bespoke display cases for the artefacts, optimised from both a conservation and exhibition perspective, with particular attention paid to artefacts made of perishable materials; a new information system with up-to-date content and communication methods; a modern multimedia system to complement and integrate the explanatory text in conveying the themes covered in the galleries; and, finally, the adaptation of the electrical and lighting systems to the new layout of the exhibition”.

Mayor Alessandro Basso looks to the future: “Because,” he argues, “it is clear that the galleries will play a very important role in all the events linked to Pordenone as Italian Capital of Culture 2027, which is set to begin shortly. “That is why we want to keep the spotlight on this by seeking funding and making the most of all the opportunities provided by the law to ensure these cultural venues are modern, attractive and vibrant, with the aim of drawing in ever more visitors.”
