Pordenone is also participating in European Archaeology Days, the international initiative dedicated to promoting archaeological heritage that involves museums, sites, and cultural institutions across Europe every year.

To mark the occasion, on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June, the Museo Archeologico del Friuli Occidentale and the Villa romana di Torre will open their doors to the public with a packed programme of activities organised in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Culture: “The European Archaeology Days offer a special opportunity for residents, families and visitors to discover and rediscover Pordenone’s historical and archaeological heritage through activities open to all, reaffirming the city’s commitment to promoting its history and fostering culture as a shared asset. This is an important opportunity to engage with Pordenone’s history and gain a first-hand understanding of one of the most significant archaeological sites in our region. A particularly significant aspect of the initiative is its complete accessibility: all activities are free of charge and no booking is required.”

Guided tours – Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June

On both days, there will be free guided tours of the Villa romana di Torre and the Roman section of the Museo Archeologico del Friuli Occidentale, which houses the artefacts unearthed during the excavations carried out by the archaeologist-count Giuseppe di Ragogna at the site of the Roman villa, situated a short walk from the castle that now houses the museum.
