A new boost for Pordenone’s municipal museums: the City Council has launched the tender process for a three-year contract (2026–2029) for museum education and cultural heritage outreach services, worth a total of 195,000 euros, following a proposal by the Councillor for Culture, Alberto Parigi.

This initiative forms part of a programme that has been developed over the years, during which educational and outreach activities have become an integral and ongoing part of the Civic Museums’ offering, with a well-structured, carefully planned and constantly updated monthly programme. Against this backdrop, the new procedure is designed to further strengthen and develop an already well-established educational programme, responding to growing demand and introducing increasingly inclusive ways of engaging with the museums.

The service will enable the development of an integrated programme of activities that complements school programmes with initiatives aimed at the general public, families and summer camps, featuring workshops and educational activities designed to engage diverse audiences and promote wider and more participatory access to the museums’ collections. The activities will be planned in consultation with the museums’ management and will take place at the city’s main exhibition venues – from the Museo d’arte to the Galleria Bertoia, and from the Museo Archeologico to the Museo di Storia Naturale – highlighting their unique features and content.

This initiative forms part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the role of museums as places for interaction and learning, capable of engaging with the community and making cultural heritage increasingly accessible and inclusive.

At the same time, the Executive Committee has also authorised the submission of an application for a regional grant to support the activities of the municipal museums – specifically the Museo d’arte and the Museo di Storia Naturale – in line with a long-standing practice whereby the Municipality has consistently taken action in this area and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has responded positively, supporting the planning and management of these facilities.

“This initiative,” emphasises Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Culture, “ marks an important step forward in the way the city views its museums. It is not merely a question of enhancing a service, but of reinforcing the idea of the museum as a living, open space, capable of engaging with diverse audiences and guiding people through a cultural experience that is both educational and participatory. Educational activities are now a fundamental part of museum life – a daily endeavour built on careful planning and attention – which we wish to consolidate and develop further. The quality of educational provision is one of the key factors defining the vitality of a cultural system: investing in education means investing in museums’ ability to forge connections, spark curiosity and build lasting bonds with the community, starting with the youngest members. Similarly, our relationship with the Region on these issues has strengthened over time and provides vital support in ensuring the continuity and quality of our programmes. As part of this journey, which forms part of the vision for Pordenone Capital of Culture 2027, we aim to continue developing a cultural programme capable of engaging and fostering the growth of the city as a whole ”.

The process that has now begun will lead, over the coming months, to the operational definition of the services and the launch of new educational activities, with a view to making museums increasingly accessible and encouraging greater public participation.
