Exhibitions extended until 26 April: 16,000 visitors and the programme of accompanying events
The exhibition series “On Reading: A Season of Photography Exhibitions in Pordenone” has been extended until 26 April 2026.
The decision stems from the interest shown in recent months – with almost 16,000 visitors – and from the desire to give the public more time to explore this multifaceted exhibition project, which forms part of the programme leading up to Pordenone’s designation as Italian Capital of Culture 2027.
“The programme leading up to Pordenone 2027 is proving a success, with a host of cultural initiatives,” says Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Cultural and Youth Policies. “The exhibition on the legendary photographer Robert Doisneau at the Galleria H. Bertoia has attracted over 9,000 visitors, whilst the accompanying exhibitions by contemporary photographers are also proving popular with the public. The Palazzo Ricchieri Civic Art Museum has seen nearly 5,000 visitors, whilst the recently opened Pordenone Cultural Markets venue has attracted 1,800. These significant results have prompted us to extend the exhibitions until 26 April, when they will also be open over Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.”
The exhibition, promoted by Pordenone City Council and produced and organised by Suazes, with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, takes place across several venues in the city – the H. Bertoia Gallery, the Palazzo Ricchieri Civic Art Museum and Mercati Culturali Pordenone – bringing together 20th-century masters of photography and contemporary international artists to explore the theme of ‘reading’ as a means of interpreting reality.
Alongside the exhibition dedicated to Robert Doisneau, featuring over 130 photographs, the project presents the work of Olivia Arthur and Stefanie Moshammer, in an exhibition that weaves together perspectives, styles and generations.
The extension is accompanied by a programme of fringe events that rounds off the project, transforming it into a genuine, wide-ranging cultural journey. Talks, presentations and workshops explore the links between photography, literature, photojournalism and creative practice, involving local organisations and offering opportunities to discover the city’s cultural venues.
Upcoming events include:
- the launch of the book 'Paris, Paris!' with Umberto Alberini, exploring literature and cultural history;
- a meeting with the photographer Pierpaolo Mittica, known for his work on Chernobyl and Fukushima;
- an intensive photography workshop led by Bartolomeo Rossi, designed as a practical and participatory experience;
- a guided tour of the Doisneau exhibition with the curator, Marco Minuz.
- A concert featuring the musician Anzwart
Through this extension and the programme of events, the project aims to mark the conclusion of the exhibition whilst maintaining an ongoing dialogue with visitors and the city, highlighting the widespread and shared nature of the cultural programme.
