Pordenone pays tribute to one of the key figures in its entrepreneurial history.

The municipal administration has approved the naming of the municipal area at the intersection of Via San Marco and Via Codafora after Luigia Tagliariol Tomadini (1890–1979), an entrepreneur from Pordenone who, through her determination and business acumen, made a decisive contribution to the growth of Pastificio Tomadini, one of the companies that have shaped the city’s economic history.

Mayor Alessandro Basso points out that this decision is intended as a gesture of gratitude toward a woman who has had a profound impact on the development of Pordenone:

“Our community grows by looking toward the future, and this also means remembering the people who shaped Pordenone’s identity. Dedicating a public space to Luigia Tagliariol Tomadini serves a dual purpose: the first is to preserve the memory of an entrepreneur who was able to lead and grow one of our city’s most iconic businesses, and the second—no less important—is to highlight her role as a pioneer of women’s entrepreneurship, thereby recognizing the contributions of women who, often quietly but with extraordinary expertise, have contributed to the economic and social growth of our region.”

Born in Pordenone in 1890, Luigia Tagliariol married Antonio Tomadini. After becoming a widow just a few years into their marriage, she took on a key role in managing the family business. Thanks to her dedication and passion for her work, she contributed to the growth of Pastificio Tomadini, transforming it into a well-known and highly regarded manufacturer and a pillar of the Pordenone community.

Walter De Bortoli, Councilor for General Affairs, highlights the symbolic significance of the naming, which pays tribute not only to a prominent figure in Pordenone’s business community but also to the role of women in the city’s economic history: “With this decision, we aim to restore to the collective memory a woman who distinguished herself through her courage, vision, and entrepreneurial skills at a time when women leading companies were still the exception. Dedicating a public space to her means recognizing the value of her commitment and the contribution she made to the development of one of Pordenone’s iconic businesses, while also highlighting an important chapter in the city’s history.”

The area that will be named after Luigia Tagliariol Tomadini is located at the intersection of Via San Marco and Via Codafora, where the historic dough mixer from Pastificio Tomadini is situated. The choice of this location holds strong symbolic significance: the site is situated directly across from the historic production complex and near the Tomadini family home, thereby preserving the link between the memory of the entrepreneur and one of the most iconic sites in Pordenone’s industrial history.

With this dedication, the City continues its efforts to honor the city’s history by recognizing individuals who have contributed to the economic, social, and cultural growth of the area, keeping alive the memory of the women and men who have left a significant legacy for future generations.

The resolution will now be forwarded to the Deputazione di Storia Patria per il Friuli for the opinion required by law. Subsequently, the City will proceed with the installation of the commemorative plaque and the completion of the naming of the new small square.
