Also included is “Il Fiume che Canta. La Carta dei Valori”, promoted by the AvA – Arte Vita Anima Association, amongst the 42 projects selected under the City of Pordenone’s public call for proposals dedicated to initiatives that explore the themes of the Pordenone 2027 Italian Capital of Culture bid dossier.

Through group walks, meetings with artists, environmental experiences and opportunities to engage with leading figures from the worlds of culture and sport, the project offers a journey of rediscovery of the bond between communities, rivers and the local area.

Alberto Parigi, Councillor for Culture: “The format and the municipal resources allocated as part of ‘Verso Pordenone 2027’ are already generating numerous new cultural and artistic opportunities for the city in 2026, including the project ‘Il Fiume che Canta’.” Being the Italian Capital of Culture also means creating opportunities for interaction and dialogue with artists, sportspeople and prominent figures from our local area, fostering direct, open and stimulating exchange for the whole community. This initiative fully embodies the participatory and inclusive spirit that drives the journey towards Pordenone 2027.”

First event: Sunday 28 June 2026, featuring Guerrino Dirindin

The programme gets into full swing with a series of events that will take visitors and local residents on a journey along the river and into the stories that have shaped its landscape and identity.

The first event is scheduled for Sunday 28 June in Vallenoncello: ‘Living Earth and Slow Waters: A Walk with the Artist, Stories of Family and the River’, dedicated to the life and artistic work of Guerrino Dirindin. The event is scheduled for 10.00 am at Guerrino Dirindin’s Studio Atelier, at Via del Cuch 3 in Vallenoncello, with participants meeting at 9.45 am.

During the morning, participants will be able to visit the artist’s studio, view his works and hear him recount a creative journey deeply rooted in the memory of the Noncello. Coming from a family of boatmen, Dirindin has transformed his relationship with the river into an artistic language composed of materials, earth, engravings and marks that evoke the flow of water and the layered nature of the landscape. The morning will conclude with a walk down to the riverbank for a symbolic blessing of the waters and of our intentions.

Upcoming events: featuring Denis Abazi and Nicole David, Daniele Molmenti and Davide Toffolo

The project will continue on Saturday 26 September with a walk and a workshop led by the artists Denis Abazi and Nicole David, in collaboration with the Apid Art collective.

Sunday 27 September, featuring Olympic champion Daniele Molmenti and a canoe trip down the Noncello River, in collaboration with the Naonis Canoe Club.

On Saturday 3 October, join Davide Toffolo on a walking tour exploring urban Pordenone in the 1970s and the historical relationship between the city and its river.

The project “Fiume che Canta – La Carta dei Valori”

The Fiume che Canta. La Carta dei Valori is a cultural and environmental project dedicated to the rivers and freshwater bodies of Friuli, in particular the Tagliamento and Noncello, two watercourses that symbolise identity, memory and transformation for the communities of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The project aims to promote a culture of water and a sustainable, innovative approach to enhancing river landscapes, through a participatory mapping of the acoustic, cultural and symbolic landscapes that define people’s relationship with their rivers.

Through experiential activities, artistic initiatives, wellness practices, educational activities, and opportunities for active citizenship, the project engages communities, schools, local governments, and local stakeholders in the development of the Charter of River Values, a shared document that will bring together perceptions, needs, and visions related to daily life along the Tagliamento and Noncello rivers.

The initiative aims to strengthen environmental awareness, a sense of belonging, and the connection between citizens and water landscapes, fostering an encounter between traditions, languages, and memories. Il Fiume che Canta. La Carta dei Valori thus becomes a widespread workshop for a new culture of water: rivers that unite, heal, and inspire the communities they flow through.
